Child Development Training Course

Course Objectives

• Identify and respond appropriately to a child’s developmental needs in the home or in a childcare setting

• Outline the physical development process of a child between 0-6 years

• Describe and enhance a child’s cognitive and language development process

• Explain the factors that influence a child’s emotional and social development

• Understand the role of the childcare worker in a child’s development.

• Childcare workers and the promotion of child development

• The physical development of a child

• Activities that promote physical development

• Cognitive development process

• Importance of language in the overall development of the child

• Stages of language development

• The process of emotional and social development between 0-6 years

• Managing children’s behaviour in a childcare setting

• Development of emotional and social development within a childcare setting

• Integrated play and development

Assessment Structure

• Collection of Work (including child observations) = 40%

• Assignment = 30%

• Examination = 30%

Entry Requirements

• National Vocational Certificate Level 4 OR

• Leaving Certificate or equivalent qualifications and/or relevant life and work experiences.
