Working in Childcare Training Course

Course Objectives

• Equip the learner with necessary skills and knowledge to work in a professional manner in a childcare setting.

• Promote good practice, equality and respect for diverse culture when caring for a child.

• Develop learner’s knowledge of the history and current status of childcare provision in Ireland.

• Understand the role, responsibilities and rights of a childcare employee.

• Understand the importance of effective communication with children, colleagues and parents in a childcare setting.

Course Syllabus

• The history of childcare provision in Ireland

• Childcare setting- structure of employment

• Personal qualities of effective childcare workers

• Facilitating diversity in the childcare setting

• Legislative requirements for employers and employees

• Implications of childcare legislation for a childcare worker

• Interacting effectively with parents

• Communicating effectively with children

• Verbal and Non-Verbal communication within a childcare settings

Assessment Structure

• 2 Assignments (30% each) = 60%

• Learner Record = 40%

Entry Requirements

• National Vocational Certificate Level 4 OR

• Leaving Certificate or equivalent qualifications and/or relevant life and work experiences.
