Early Childhood Language & Literacy in Childcare Training Course

Course Objectives

• Demonstrate an understanding of and implement early childhood principles and practices with regard to language and literacy activities

• Understand the rationale and the sequence of language and literacy curriculum

• Design and maintain a developmentally appropriate environment in response to the language and literacy needs of the individual child

• Demonstrate proficiency in applying early childhood principles in the context of the language and literacy curriculum

• Develop, implement and evaluate a range of activities, which are age appropriate according to the principles of the language and literacy curriculum.

• Early Childhood Philosophies of Language and Literacy Learning

• Language and Literacy Educational Materials

• Language and Literacy Curriculum Research and Development.

Assessment Structure

• Portfolio of Research 70%

• Practical Examinations 30%

Preferred Entry Requirement

• FETAC Level 5 Certificate, to include Approaches to Childcare or equivalent qualifications and relevant life and work experiences.
