OFTEC 101 & OFTEC 105E - Guidelines to course entry
OFTEC offer courses for people with relevant experience looking to access the oil engineering industry, experienced engineers looking to qualify for the first time and engineers renewing their qualifications. OFTEC oil training and assessment courses are aimed at oil firing technicians who are involved in the commissioning and servicing of oil burning appliances. It is extremely unlikely that any person without previous knowledge, skills or experience could enter an OFT assessment and complete it successfully. Applicants should have an understanding of the level of skills that will be needed to pass an assessment.
Candidates will also need up-to-date OFTEC Books 1, 2, 3 or 4 depending on the module taken.
Entry level to the OFT 101, 105e courses are as follows:
-
A candidate presenting for re-assessment holding OFT Certification in the areas requiring Re-Assessment.
-
A candidate requiring to add to current OFT Certification or candidates with relevant skills/knowledge/experience – e.g. people who have already gained relevant experience in associated activities such as plumbing and heating, gas fitting etc. Some service engineers etc. who may already have the necessary manual skills and dexterity and may have sound engineering understanding and the ability to appreciate the concepts and principles. In this case a Checklist detailing such experience will be supplied by OFTEC and will be completed by the candidate. Assessment centres must evaluate this information and retain as a permanent record. Alternatively the candidate may provide original relevant qualifications to support this entry level.
A new entrant to the industry with no prior knowledge and skills must either:
-
Train through an apprenticeship Fás, FETAC, NVQ / SNVQ; or equivalent.
-
Seek other appropriate training giving a similar level of manual skills, knowledge and understanding, which might include OFT 50.
-
New Engineers should take the OFT50 course which leads on to OFT101, OFT105E. Chevron Training provide the introductory OFTEC50 course monthly in both Cork and Dublin.
