Taxi Regulation, deregulation, National Vehicle Licensing System and Driver Licensing and Training, are terms Taxi drivers in Ireland are all too familiar with today.
New SPSV licence application process
Driver licensing is currently administered by An Garda Siochana on behalf of the Commission for Taxi Regulation in Ireland.
The Commission for Taxi Regulation will in 2009 put in place a new SPSV licence application process and will take responsibility for the administration and issue of licences.
Once the new driver licensing application process is in place it will be a requirement for all potential SPSV drivers applying for a new licence to undergo a SPSV Skills Assessment.
Through the introduction of the SPSV skills development learning material and assessment, the commission for taxi regulation aims to equip existing drivers and those considering a career in the industry with the knowledge, skills, and professional attitude to obtain a SPSV licence a maintain a successful business.
From 2009 it will be a requirement for all potential SPSV drivers applying for a licence to attain a SPSV skills certificate in order to apply for a SPSV licence. Participants will have a choice of countrywide locations to sit the assessment and can request the time and date most suitable to them. The assessment will be delivered in Irish and English and there will be full facilities for participants with specific communication needs.
Jobseekers who satisfy the criteria for FÁS funding , may be able to attend Chevron Training’s FÁS funded training courses for free, as they will be able to avail of up to 100% funding for the course fee.
